Digitization of seals, charters, and registers from the Abbey of Chaalis collection

Fondation Jacquemart-André, Institut de France, Domaine de Chaalis, Fontaine-Chaalis, Paris (2024)

To enhance the value of its collection of medieval charters, the Fondation Jacquemart-André, part of the Institut de France, sought to contribute to the digital database Sigilla, which catalogs seals preserved in France, by providing images of charters and seals.

Registers, parchment charters, and seals were digitized. A preliminary inventory was created. Each charter and seal was systematically measured and briefly described.

Example: Digitization of the seal from the charter of Goeffroy, Bishop of Senlis, documenting the acquisition by the monks of Chaalis from Eudes de Fontaine (MJAC-MS 4528-2_10SC recto and verso).

Digitization of Henri Alekan’s shot notebooks

Cinémathèque française, Paris (2024–2025)

A chutier is a notebook used to organize film rushes, shot by shot. The Cinémathèque entrusted us with the digitization of the chutier prepared by cinematographer Henri Alekan for Henri Calef’s 1953 film Les amours finissent à l’aube.

The notebooks and the negatives stapled inside were digitized. These negatives were then converted to positives.

Due to their cellulose nitrate composition, the negatives are extremely fragile, with a limited lifespan and flammable properties requiring special care.

Digitization of artworks from the Museum of Companionship in Tours

Musée du Compagnonnage, Tours (2024)

Highly popular in the 19th century, the conduite ceremony played a major role in the daily life and imagination of companion craftsmen. It quickly became a subject and pretext for the creation of watercolors and lithographs.
One example is the “Field of the Agenais Conduite – The Beautiful Conduite”, dated to the second quarter of the 19th century.

The digitization of numerous conduites helped the museum enhance its exhibition narrative and illustrate the publication “Partir est une fête, la conduite des compagnons.”

Digitization of albums from the Army Health Service Museum

Musée du Service de santé des armées, Val-de-Grâce, Paris (2024)

The museum preserves numerous documents tracing the history of military medicine.

This album includes gelatin silver prints showing life at Volunteer Hospital 95bis of the Poliakoff unit, housed in the Grand Hôtel of Biarritz between 1914 and 1915. At the time, Biarritz had sixteen hotels converted into hospitals for the duration of the war, making the seaside town one of the first medical centers on the Basque coast.

Blending discreetly into the daily life of the Fondation Custodia, Christelle Téa created spontaneous ink drawings on large “raisin” format sheets, capturing both artworks and staff.

The foundation entrusted us with the digitization of the drawings featured in this unique catalogue.
